MAKING A HOUSE FEEL LIKE HOME.
Rocky Step Retreat
2023

Scott Depot, West Virginia
Settling in.
When we moved to West Virginia in 2022, we knew there would be a lot of adjusting for our family. Because of that, picking the right house that felt comfortable and familiar was incredibly important to us.
The Rocky Step house had good bones and plenty of potential, but it needed to feel like ours. Over time, we worked our way through nearly every room—painting, gutting bathrooms, updating finishes, reworking spaces and adding details that made the house feel more personal to our family.
IT WASN'T ABOUT MAKING EVERYTHING NEW, IT WAS ABOUT CREATING A SPACE WHERE OUR KIDS COULD SETTLE IN AND FEEL THE COMFORT OF HOME.
RESIDENTIAL DESIGN
SEEING THE POTENTIAL.
The house had plenty of character, but its rustic, cabin-style personality didn't quite feel like us. We wanted to keep the warmth and character of the house while creating spaces that felt lighter, softer and more reflective of our family.
Rather than starting over, we worked with what was already there. Over the first couple of years, we reworked spaces, changed finishes and layered in pieces that felt more like us.
PROJECT MINIS
Explore the transformation behind each space—from where we started to how it came together.
Doing my best to create a space that convinces my kids they should definitely stay home.
A little paint, a basketball court and ALLLLLL the flowers gives this place a whole new personality.
Taking the spaces we use every day and making them more functional and fun.

More than a renovation.
A houseful of memories.
When we first moved to West Virginia, we didn't know exactly what this chapter would look like. We just knew we wanted our kids to feel at home.
From becoming the “get-ready” house for school dances to having a kitchen full of kids for Saturday morning breakfasts to the most cozy Christmases, Rocky Step became the backdrop for so many of our favorite moments. It gave us a place to make all the memories that make a house feel like home.
FOR THAT, WE WILL ALWAYS BE GRATEFUL FOR THIS LITTLE RETREAT.

Living life on Rocky Step.
